Jackie Doss, MS, CHES, is the Assistant Director for Mobile Health Services with DPHI, where she oversees the Delta Care-A-Van, the mobile medical unit used to improve the quality of health through health services and education in rural, underserved communities in the Mississippi Delta Region. Prior to joining NYIT, Ms. Doss worked at The University of Alabama where she served as the Program Specialist for the VitAL Project, a state-wide initiative that focuses on mental health resources and the prevention of substance misuse. During her time in this role, Ms. Doss provided clinical trainings on Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), an evidence-based practice aimed at identifying, reducing, and preventing problematic alcohol and illicit drug use and abuse. Additionally, she played a key role in implementing the SBIRT program across nearly 30 health facilities throughout Alabama.
Her passion lies in helping individuals prevent and/or manage chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol through lifestyle changes. She also enjoys helping individuals with quitting nicotine and tobacco use through coaching and health education, which inspired her to become a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS).
Over the past 10 years, Ms. Doss has dedicated her efforts to both healthcare and academia. Her focus on enhancing health and health outcomes has spanned various areas such as health education, chronic disease prevention/management, behavioral health, health promotion, health communications, injury prevention, patient satisfaction, substance use and harm reduction, health equity, building community partnerships, community engagement, and motivational interviewing.
Ms. Doss hails from Columbus, MS, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, as well as a Master of Science degree in Health Education from Mississippi University for Women. In her current position, she aspires to advance her mission of enhancing health and health outcomes. This involves establishing a health coaching program at the NYIT clinic to engage individually with patients she has formed connections with in the community.
