Dr. Quinyatta Mumford is a public health leader, educator, and practitioner deeply committed to advancing equity, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in public health education. As Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Dr. Mumford brings a future-forward approach to preparing the next generation of public health professionals, centering holistic learning, evidence-based practice, and community engagement.
With nearly two decades of experience across public health sectors, Dr. Mumford’s career has spanned academic, nonprofit, and governmental arenas. Her areas of expertise include adolescent health, HIV/STI prevention, community health worker workforce development, and public health leadership. Before joining NYIT, she served as the founding CEO of Village Public Health, a youth-centered organization rooted in creating inclusive spaces for young people to thrive mentally, emotionally, and physically. Her work there continues to inform her approach to leadership, especially around centering the voices and needs of historically under-resourced populations.
Dr. Mumford holds a Doctorate in Public Health with a concentration in Public Health Leadership, a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management, and a Bachelor's degree in Health Science. A passionate advocate for applied learning, she has led large-scale public health initiatives. She collaborates regularly with schools, government agencies, and community-based organizations to expand access to health education and care.
In her role at NYIT, Dr. Mumford is committed to strengthening academic rigor, cultivating culturally responsive teaching, and fostering interdisciplinary research that tackles complex public health challenges. She is especially focused on mentoring students who seek to lead with purpose, compassion, and a commitment to health justice.
